As the social security deficit continues to widen, the director general of the Paris Public Hospitals Agency (Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris) outlines his ideas for reforming the healthcare system in a memo published Monday, May 26 by Terra Nova. He calls for a shift away from purely accounting and short-term thinking and toward tackling the problem at its root.

To save the health system, we will have to attack the mountain of spending "from its north face ." This is the image Nicolas Revel uses when he presents his battle plan to reform the French medical system. In a note published on Monday, May 26 by the think tank Terra Nova, a progressive think tank close to the Socialist Party, the director general of the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) calls for a move away from what he calls "accounting regulation logic" : adjusting the prices of medical procedures and products, and the reimbursement rate from which social security beneficiaries benefit, to regulate the deficit.
